December 2024's Featured Sermon of the Month
The Light Shines in Darkness
Scripture Focus: John 1:1-5, Isaiah 9:2,6-7, John 8:12
During this year's Christmas Candlelight Service, Pastor Jaime delivered a message of hope and truth, reminding us that in a world filled with darkness, Jesus is the True Light. Through scripture and reflection, he called the congregation to recognize Christ’s light, respond to it personally, and share it with others.
Jesus, the Light That Cannot Be Overcome
Opening the sermon, Pastor Jaime turned to John 1:5:
“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
He explained that darkness, no matter how deep, can never extinguish the light of Christ. In a world that often seems lost—filled with confusion, suffering, and sin—Jesus’ presence brings hope, clarity, and salvation.
Quoting from Isaiah 9:2, Pastor Jaime pointed to the prophecy of the Messiah:
“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light.”
This verse, spoken centuries before Jesus' birth, foreshadowed the coming of Christ—the light breaking through the darkness of the world. Just as Israel longed for the arrival of their Savior, many today still search for meaning and truth, often unaware that Christ is the answer.
A Call to Respond to the Light
Pastor Jaime challenged the congregation with an important question:
“Can you remember where you were before you saw the True Light?”
He urged listeners to reflect on their personal journey of faith, recognizing the moments when they felt spiritually lost. But just as the wise men followed the star to find Jesus (Matthew 2:10), we are also called to respond to the light when it is revealed to us.
"Faith requires a response. The wise men didn’t just admire the light—they followed it, rejoiced in it, and worshiped Jesus because of it.”
Just knowing about Jesus isn’t enough. Recognizing His truth means taking action—choosing to trust, follow, and worship Him with our lives.
Sharing the Light with Others
Pastor Jaime then shifted the focus outward. Faith isn’t just personal—it’s meant to be shared.
“We are not only called to receive the light but also to reflect it.”
Referencing Matthew 5:16, he reminded everyone that Jesus commanded,
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
This, he explained, is both a privilege and a responsibility. The way we live, speak, and treat others should illuminate Christ’s love and truth.
“People are watching us—especially in times of difficulty. How we respond to hardship can either point others toward Christ or turn them away.”
Living as a light means demonstrating grace, kindness, and faithfulness, even when the world around us feels dark.
A Lasting Hope
Bringing the message to a close, Pastor Jaime emphasized that all the temporary things of this world—possessions, status, even struggles—will one day fade. But what will last is the impact we make when we share Christ’s light.
“Your house won’t last. Your bank account won’t last. Even the gifts you opened today won’t last. But the gospel? That lasts forever.”
He urged the congregation to recognize that the greatest gift they could ever receive—or share—is salvation.
Stand Firm in the Light
This message serves as a powerful reminder: Christ’s light never fades. As Pastor Jaime encouraged, let us reflect on our own response to His truth and commit to being faithful witnesses.
Have you truly embraced Christ’s light in your own life?
Are you reflecting His light in how you live and treat others?
Who in your life needs to see that light through you?
“You may be the only glimpse of Jesus that someone sees this week.”
Let us go forward with boldness, standing firm in faith, living with discernment, and shining brightly in a world that desperately needs Him.
