April 2026 Featured Monthly Sermon

We live in a world that constantly pulls our attention toward things that promise satisfaction but never truly deliver. We spend our time, energy, and resources chasing after what looks meaningful, yet often walk away feeling empty. The truth is, nothing in this world can satisfy the soul like God can.

The invitation is simple but urgent. Seek the Lord while He may be found. There is a window of opportunity, a moment where God is near and calling. When we respond to Him, we find life, purpose, and fulfillment that cannot be found anywhere else.

“Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.” Isaiah 55:6 (KJV)

The Problem: Misplaced Priorities

The issue in Haggai’s day was not rebellion. It was delay. The people did not deny God. They simply postponed obedience. They convinced themselves that it was not the right time to do what God had already commanded.

This same mindset shows up in our lives. We say we will serve, we will commit, we will get serious about our walk with God, but not right now. Maybe when life slows down. Maybe when things are easier. But delayed obedience is still disobedience.

Spiritual procrastination is subtle, but dangerous. It keeps us comfortable while quietly pulling us away from God’s purpose.

“Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.” Haggai 1:2 (KJV)

Building Our Kingdom Instead of God’s

The people had not stopped working. They had simply shifted their focus. Instead of building God’s house, they were busy building their own. Their homes were finished, comfortable, and complete, while God’s work remained undone.

There is nothing wrong with having things, goals, or responsibilities. The problem arises when those things take priority over God. When our lives become centered on personal success, comfort, or achievement, we slowly drift from what matters most.

It is possible to be busy, productive, and even successful, and still be completely out of alignment with God.

“Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?” Haggai 1:4 (KJV)

The Proof: Empty Satisfaction

God reveals the result of misplaced priorities. It is effort without fulfillment. The people were working hard, but getting nowhere. No matter how much they gained, it was never enough.

This is what life looks like when God is not first. You can achieve more, earn more, and do more, but still feel empty. It is like running on a treadmill. There is a lot of effort, but no real progress.

That dissatisfaction is not meaningless. It is purposeful. God allows that emptiness to remind us that something is wrong. It is His way of drawing us back to Him.

Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.” Haggai 1:6 (KJV)

The Command: Consider Your Ways

God gives a direct and personal command. Consider your ways. It is a call to pause and take an honest look at your life. Not just what you are doing, but where your priorities truly are.

It is easy to look around and point out what needs to change in others. But this command is not about anyone else. It is about you. It is about your heart, your decisions, and your relationship with God.

Before anything changes outwardly, there must be a willingness to examine what is happening inwardly. Real growth begins when you stop avoiding the truth and start facing it. When you take time to honestly evaluate your life before God, that is where real change begins.

Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.” Haggai 1:5 (KJV)

The Prescription: Realignment Through Obedience

God’s solution is clear and practical. Go, bring, and build.

First, go. Take action. Stop waiting for the perfect moment. Obedience begins when we move.Second, bring. Make a sacrifice. True service to God costs something, whether it is time, effort, or comfort.

Third, build. Follow through in obedience. Do what God has already called you to do.

We often want change without effort, revival without sacrifice, and blessing without obedience. But God’s pattern is consistent. Obedience always comes first.

Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.” Haggai 1:8 (KJV)

The Result: God’s Presence and Revival

When the people finally responded in obedience, everything changed. They did not just feel something. They acted on what God had said. That was the turning point.

God did not move because of emotion. He moved because of obedience. When they realigned their priorities and followed His command, their hearts were stirred and their purpose was renewed.

This is where revival truly begins. Not in a moment of feeling, but in a decision to obey.

Then Zerubbabel… and all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God… And the people did fear before the Lord.” Haggai 1:12 (KJV)

A Personal Invitation

The call remains the same today. Consider your ways.

It is possible to be active in church, busy in life, and still be misaligned with God. The question is not what others see, but what God sees in your heart.

Take a moment to pause. Reflect. Ask God to reveal what needs to change.

And then respond. Not later. Not someday. Now.

Because when priorities are realigned, obedience is restored, and hearts are surrendered, God is faithful to meet us there.

Search me, O God… and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV)

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  • What has God already told me to do that I’ve been delaying?

  • Have I been more focused on building my life than doing the work God has called me to?

  • Do I see signs of spiritual dissatisfaction in my life, like effort without fulfillment?

  • When was the last time I truly stopped and “considered my ways” before God?

  • What is one specific step of obedience I need to take this week?
